Visa guide

Which UAE visa do you actually need?

Every permit below is issued by the competent UAE authorities and delivered to you as a PDF. What changes between them is how long you may stay, how many times you may enter, and how fast you need it.

Which UAE visa do you actually need?
Visa Length of stay Entries Best for
14 Days Visa 14 days Single Tourist
30 Days Visa 30 days Single Tourist
60 Days Visa 60 days Single Tourist
96 Hours (Transit) 96 hours Single Layover
30 Days For GCC Residents 30 days Single GCC residents
30 Days Multiple Entry Visa 30 days Multiple Frequent travel
60 Days Multiple Entry Visa 60 days Multiple Frequent travel

What you need to apply

Most applications are approved on two documents. Extra documents tied to specific nationalities appear in the form automatically when they apply to you.

  • A clear colour scan of your passport data page, valid for at least 6 months from your arrival date.
  • A recent passport-style photo: plain light background, full face visible, no glasses, nothing covering the face.
  • Some nationalities also need a national ID, additional passport pages or a bank statement. The form shows these only when they are required.

Entry window vs length of stay

Two different dates sit on your permit, and confusing them is the most common planning mistake we see.

  • The entry window is the period in which you must arrive. It starts from the issue date and is printed on your PDF.
  • The length of stay (14, 30 or 60 days) is counted from the day you actually enter the country, not from the issue date.
  • Apply close to your travel dates rather than months ahead, so the entry window comfortably covers your trip.

Extending your stay

Tourist permits can normally be extended from inside the UAE, but the request has to be filed before the current permit expires, not after.

  • Start a few days before expiry. Approval is not instant and the fee is set by the authorities.
  • Once a permit has expired, extension is no longer possible and daily overstay fines apply for every additional day.
  • Message us before your permit expires and we will tell you honestly whether extending or exiting and returning costs you less.

Transit and GCC residents

Two situations follow their own rules, and applying under the wrong category is a common cause of rejection.

  • Transit: if you leave the airport during a layover you need a transit permit, plus your onward ticket and the entry document for your next destination.
  • GCC residents: the 30-day resident permit requires a valid residence ID from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar or Oman, and each country has its own supporting document.
  • Companions of a GCC citizen apply under a separate category, with the sponsor passport attached.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

How will I receive my UAE visa? +
Once processing is complete, your visa is sent to your email as a PDF. Print it or keep it on your phone for check-in and immigration.
How long does processing take? +
Regular processing takes 3–4 working days after acceptance (3–5 days for the 60-day visa). Express processing delivers in 24–36 hours.
Is the visa fee refundable if my application is rejected? +
If your application is rejected by the immigration department, the visa fee is non-refundable. We review every application carefully before submission to minimize this risk.
Which visa type should I choose? +
It depends on your trip: 14 or 30 days for holidays, 60 days for longer stays, 96 hours for transit, multiple-entry if you plan to leave and re-enter the UAE, and the GCC visa if you hold a GCC residence permit.
What happens if I overstay in the UAE? +
Overstaying leads to fines of AED 50 per day. After 3 days, an escape report may be filed, which can result in a ban from the UAE and GCC countries. Always make sure your visa is valid.
