Dubai Visa Rejected? Here Is Why, and What to Do Next

A rejected Dubai visa usually means UAE immigration found a problem with the application or with your record. It does not mean you are banned for life. The common causes are an unclear passport scan or document, details that do not match your passport, a document your nationality needs that was not sent, or a previous overstay. Fix the cause before you reapply, because an application sent again unchanged is likely to be refused again.

The hard part is that immigration does not tell you which one it was. A rejection arrives with no reason attached, so what happens next is detective work: going back through the file and finding the most likely cause before anyone pays a second time.

From the files we handle, the answer is usually one of three things. An unclear passport scan or document. An old overstay. Or a document the applicant’s nationality requires that they did not know about, which mostly happens to people who applied on their own.

Why Dubai visit visas get rejected

An unclear passport scan or document

This is the cause we see most, and the easiest to prevent. Immigration reads your details from the copy you upload. If the copy is blurred, has glare across the photo, is cut off at an edge, or is a screenshot of a photograph of the page, the details cannot be checked and the application can be refused.

The part people miss is the bottom of the passport page: the two lines of letters, numbers and arrows. If those lines are cropped or unreadable, the scan fails even when the rest looks fine. Photograph the page flat, in daylight, with all four corners in the frame.

A document your nationality needs, and you did not send

Most applicants need only a passport copy and a photograph. Some nationalities are asked for more, such as a national ID card or other supporting documents. Our own application guidance lists Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran and Pakistan among the nationalities that may need additional documents.

An old overstay

A previous overstay in the UAE stays on your record and is seen again on every new application. This is the second cause we see most often, and it surprises people whose overstay was years ago or only a few days long.

Details that do not match the passport

Your name, passport number, date of birth and nationality must match the passport exactly. A missing middle name, a surname and given name entered the wrong way round, or two digits swapped in the passport number is enough to stop an application. Copy the details from the passport itself, not from another document.

Less than six months left on the passport

Your passport needs at least six months of validity. A passport close to expiry is a simple reason for refusal and one of the easiest to avoid: renew it first, then apply.

Unpaid fines, open cases or an absconding report

An unpaid fine, an open court or financial case, or an absconding report filed by a former employer can lead to a rejection. None of these is fixed by a better scan. The underlying issue has to be settled first, and our guide to UAE visa bans explains how to check whether one applies to you.

Security rejections

Some applications are refused after a security check. These are not explained, and they are not caused by a document you can correct, so sending the same application again does not change the outcome. If your application is still being checked rather than rejected, see what a security hold means.

Why you are not told the reason

UAE immigration does not give a reason when it rejects a visit visa. The decision comes through as a status, without an explanation, and there is no office you can call to ask for one.

That is why the most useful thing after a rejection is a careful look at the file by whoever submitted it. They can see what was uploaded and compare it against the causes above. In practice, most rejections can be traced to one of them.

What to do after a rejection

1. Do not resubmit the same file straight away. Nothing about the decision changes unless the application changes.
2. Rebuild the documents. Rescan the passport page and retake the photograph, following the advice above.
3. Check the details against the passport, letter by letter and digit by digit.
4. Check what your nationality needs. If extra documents apply to you, gather them before applying again.
5. Think back over past visits. If you have ever overstayed, confirm it was settled.
6. Rule out a ban or open case if there is any chance one exists. Reapplying will not get around it.
7. Then reapply, ideally with someone checking the file before it is submitted. When the file is ready, you can apply for your Dubai e-visa online in about five minutes.

Checklist before you pay again

• Passport scan sharp, in colour, all four corners visible, bottom two lines readable
• Photograph recent, on a white background, not a screenshot or a filtered selfie
• Name, passport number and date of birth copied exactly from the passport
• Passport valid for at least six months
• Any extra documents your nationality needs, included
• Any previous overstay fine paid and settled
• No open case, unpaid fine or absconding report

When reapplying will not help

A new application fixes a document problem. It does not fix a record problem. If the rejection came from a ban, an absconding report, an open case or a security decision, every new application meets the same answer until that issue is resolved. In those cases, spend the effort on clearing the cause, not on another application fee.

What happens to the money you paid

When immigration rejects an application, the fee is not refunded, because the decision is made by immigration and not by the agency that submitted it. Refunds apply in specific cases, such as a duplicate payment or a documented error on our side, and are set out in full in our terms and conditions.

For some nationalities, immigration also requires a security deposit. That deposit is held by immigration, not by us, and is refunded under immigration’s own rules, usually within 5 to 10 business days of its decision. Deductions for government processing fees may apply.

Where these rules come from

Dubai visit visas are issued through the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) in Dubai and the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP). Both decide applications independently, and neither publishes the reason for an individual rejection.
