14, 30 or 60 Days: Which Dubai Visa Length Do You Need?

Most people choose a Dubai visa length by feel. Two weeks sounds like a holiday, a month sounds generous, and the cheapest one that looks long enough wins.

It is worth doing properly, because the sums are not close. The gap between the 14 day and 30 day visa is $20. The cost of running out of days is an overstay fine that accrues every day, or a second visa at full price. You are not choosing between $185 and $205. You are choosing between $185 and whatever it costs to be wrong.

Here is how to work out which one your trip actually needs.

The question that decides it

Not “how long is my holiday”. This one:

What date do you leave the UAE, and how certain is that date?

Count from your arrival day to your departure day, inclusive. That is the number your visa has to cover. Then ask what happens if the departure slips: a cancelled flight, a project that runs on, a family situation that needs another week.

If the answer is “nothing, the date is fixed”, buy for the count. If the answer is “it could move”, buy the next size up. The margin costs less than the alternative every time.

One more thing to settle before length: a single entry visa ends the moment you leave the country, even with days remaining. If there is any chance of a side trip to Oman, Qatar or Saudi Arabia and back, length is the wrong question and you want a multiple entry visa instead.

14 days: when it is genuinely enough

The 14 days Dubai visit visa is $185, or $235 on express.

It fits one specific shape of trip: a fixed arrival, a fixed departure, and nothing in between that can move. A conference with booked return flights. A wedding. A stopover of a few days on the way somewhere else.

What it does not fit is a first visit. Two weeks in Dubai sounds ample until you are in it, and the visa gives you no room at all. If your return date is anything other than certain, the 14 day visa is the one people regret.

Take it when the calendar is already decided and someone else is holding the flights.

30 days: the default, and why

The 30 days Dubai visit visa is $205, or $255 on express.

This is the one most travellers should take, and the reason is the $20. For the price of a taxi from the airport you go from fourteen days of hard deadline to thirty days of room. Every scenario that turns a 14 day visa into a problem, a delayed flight, an extended stay, a change of plan, disappears inside that margin.

It suits a first trip, a family visit with no fixed end, a holiday you would like to be able to extend by a few days, and any business trip where the work might run longer than the invitation said.

If you are unsure which to pick and your trip is under a month, this is the answer. The decision is not finely balanced.

60 days: when it is cheaper than the alternative

The 60 days Dubai visit visa is $325, or $375 on express.

The step up here is $120, which is a real decision rather than a rounding error. It pays for itself in three situations.

  • The trip is genuinely longer than a month. A training programme, a long project, caring for family. There is no cheaper way to be present for that long on a visit visa.
  • The end date is unknown. Medical treatment, a relative who is unwell, a property purchase. When nobody can tell you when it finishes, buy the time.
  • You would otherwise be extending. An extension costs a government fee, has to be applied for from inside the UAE before the current stay expires, and is granted at the discretion of immigration rather than automatically. Two uncertain steps against one certain one. If you can already see yourself extending, start with 60 days.

If you are weighing an extension against a longer visa, the rules on validity and extension set out what the process involves.

The arithmetic people get wrong

Your visa carries two separate periods, and mixing them up is the most common mistake we see.

  • The entry window. How long you have to arrive, counted from the day the visa is issued.
  • The entry window. 60 days from the date the visa is
issued. That is your deadline to arrive, not your deadline to leave.
  •
  • The stay period. 14, 30 or 60 days, counted from the day you land.

They do not overlap and they do not add up. A 30 day visa issued on 1 March does not expire on 31 March. It means you have until the end of the entry window to arrive, and once you arrive you have your 30 days from that point.

The failure looks like this: someone buys in early January for a trip in late February, counts thirty days from the purchase date, decides the visa has expired, and buys a second one. Or the reverse, counts the entry window as the stay and books a departure they cannot legally make.

Count from the day you land. Never from the day you paid.

All three are single entry, so all three end when you leave the UAE. To see every option including multiple entry, see Dubai visa types and prices.

Important note: Entry permission is granted by the immigration officer at the border, not by the visa alone. Eligibility, validity, entry and extension are governed by UAE immigration regulations and can change at any time. All applications are subject to government approval.

Where these rules come from

Dubai entry permits are issued through the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) and the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICP). Both set the stay periods and both revise the conditions without much notice, which is why the dates printed on your own document always outrank anything you read online, including this page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I leave the UAE and come back on a single entry visa?

No. A single entry visa is used up the moment you exit, even if days remain. If your trip includes a side trip to another country and a return to Dubai, you need a multiple entry visa.

It saves $20 against the 30 day visa. That is rarely worth the loss of flexibility unless both your arrival and departure dates are already fixed and cannot move.

Your stay is counted from the day you land. The issue date starts a separate window that governs how long you have to arrive, not how long you can stay.

An extension may be possible if you apply from inside the UAE before your current stay expires. A government fee applies and approval is at the discretion of immigration, so it is not something to rely on in advance. If you already expect to need longer, the 60 day visa is the safer purchase.

Fines accrue for every day beyond the permitted stay and must be settled before you can leave. An overstay is recorded and can affect future applications.

The 30 day single entry visa. First trips almost always run longer than planned, and the margin over the 14 day visa costs $20.
